SHOPPING

The nearest shops are in Glendale which is two miles from the cottage. There are local people on the Milovaig loop road who sell free range eggs, fresh vegetables and home made jams, chutneys etc. from their gates. The shops also stock local produce.

Glendale Post Office
As well as a post office, the shop sells newspapers and magazines, confectionery, groceries and vegetables. Many organic lines. A very good selection for a small shop. It also has an off license and has a good selection of wines, beers and spirits.

The Oyster Shed

Situated on the road above the Talisker distillery in Carbost, the Oyster Shed is the best place on Skye to purchase local sea food. You can either eat it there or take it away. It is a basic crofters agricultural building with picnic tables both inside and out. It has a wide range of local sea food, oysters, lobsters. crabs, scallops,prawns etc:, as well as Scottish game such as grouse, woodcock, venison, pheasant etc: at a very reasonable price.

Skyeweavers

Our own Glendale weavers Roger and Andrea can be seen working their pedal powered loom, making beautiful scarves, throws and wraps. Find them at Fasach just as you enter Glendale over the pass.  www.skyeweavers.co.uk .

Kelpie Crafts

A wide range of crafts by Linda Jackson at 1 Waterstein on the way to the lighthouse. Stop and admire her beautiful garden and enjoy the chat as you browse for gifts to take home.

Dunvegan(9 miles away)
The 'Fruit and Nut Place' is very good for fruit, vegetables and wholefoods. There is also a local bakery with cafe. There is a petrol station, shop and off licence in Dunvegan and also a garage if you have problems with your car (Kenny's Garage at the south end of the village). The Gun and Tackle shop now at Kinnemond Cottage, 9 Colbost is very good for fishing tackle and outdoor clothing. Fasgadh stores is excellent for general groceries and has an off licence.

Portree(33 miles away)
There is a large Co-op supermarket on the outskirts of the town as well as a butcher, baker and small co-op in the town centre . There are gift shops, galleries, a bookshop, vet supplies, Outdoor gear and many restaurants. The Tourist office is open all year and has a display of Skye arts and crafts, all available to buy.
